Fairy Tale Favorites!!!!

I’d like to blame this one on Phoenix, but I pulled this out myself.

Follow the breadcrumbs into the forrest and you’ll find adventure, terror, and treats. That’s right, it’s Hansel and Gretel. Poor, poor children.

This is the main story on the album, but listen through the scratches and you will find elves working hard to help an old cobbler, a little boy made out of ginger, and oh so much more. And they all live happily ever after!

Marry Poppins with Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke

This is another from Out of the Closet. You can assume that 95% of the film albums I own come from these awesome little shops. Check out the china section if you go to the location in Glendale. I dug up some amazing tea cups for a Mad Hatter party last year! On this Saturday, we need to laugh. We need spoonfuls of sugar and dancing penguins. Everyone could always use a little song and dance from a magical, carpet-bag-toting nanny!

Duke Ellington at Carnegie Hall

This collection is rare and amazing. We played this for Evan when we first took him home from the hospital. The boy LOVES his music. This is a collection of three (should be four) albums. Each side holds exaclty one song, but its like eating a good chocolate. You consume it patiently, maybe putting in a little work, and it is worth the effort! We only put on Duke when we are ready to hang out with Stella, but it enhances our day each time we do.

I feel pretty, Oh so pretty! Yay, it’s My Fair Lady! I got this dance-dance-party-in-a-sleeve at my FAVORITE chain of thrift stores in L.A., Out of the Closet. If you are near one, go. The deals are crazy and the cause is good! I first ventured into one with The Lovely Bohemian, she can attest to their gold mine status!

I adore putting on funny hats, gathering up flowers and prancing around the living room while over annunciating. This album makes me twirl like a little girl and it’s perfect for those grey afternoons with thunder in the hills.

My Saturdays have been very full as of late. Hamsterfood is going well but requires some major upkeep. Then, there is the inspiration, the curiosity, the exploration. I am on artistic overload here! My weekends fill up quickly with resume polishing, company marketing, face painting, and shooting. While I hunker down and spend all day editing in front of a screen, nothing is more soothing than this old favorite in the late hours of the night. Just get me to the church on time.

Duke Ellington at Carnegie Hall!

This is a special album to us. We unearthed this in a hidden canyon of books and records at Beit T Shuvah, 10409 Washington Blvd, Culver City, CA 90232, by Sony. This store was so kind to my family before we moved. I shopped here on my due date. I took my best friend and got lost for hours. The employees even stashed books for Evan when they came in.

This was marked for $15 but was sold to us for $5. Always a bargain, and always a good use of a few hours, this shop is one of a kind and a must see! They sell their regular albums for $1!!! Stock up.

** For those of you following .Snap, Crackle, Pop. you read, last week, that I was trying to help Gunnison’s Six Points Thrift Store raise enough for their new location. If you feel so moved, please donate! I will be back to my locally scored vinyl next week.

The Gingerbread Boy and other musical fairy tales!

We play this for the little one and he just stares at the record spinning round and bounces to the stories.

I have made it my mission, since moving to Gunnison, to find amazing records. Like I’ve said before, I always acted as though I lived in a small town (thrift stores, local coffee, farmers markets), so whats so different here?

That held true, until the hunt for great vinyl began. Boomerang’s collection is small, and I’ve bought what I want from it already. I don’t know that P.A.W.S. carries records. So one day, I grabbed some cash and headed to the opposite side of town, a whole 5 minutes away, and went to Six Points Thrift Store320 S. 14th Street, Gunnison, CO 81230.

                                                                                                                                                   1

They are an amazing organization you should check out. Right now you can donate to help fund their new location by Wal-Mart! This store is my diamond in the rough, and is close to my heart. Here, I found under-priced vintage pyrex, and handful of outfits for Evan for $2, a vintage tin, and AMAZING records! For the next few weeks we’ll listen to my records from Six Points and hopefully help them raise some money!

What’s playing on Stella Blue today?

I feel pretty, oh so pretty! It’s West Side Story! Bhanahnanonanom, SNAP, SNAP!

IMG_3368

We love to twirl around with our wee one, snap, sing and dance! And he laughs. It’s pure weekend bliss and the perfect way to cap a stressful week at work.

This is the first play I ever did see. I didn’t understand the two act part of theater, and panicked that the play ended with the death of a beloved character. The real ending was much worse. But I was hooked on musical theater ever since!

Snap, snap, twiiirl!
